Clearwater Seafoods Injects Regional Hospital Redevelopment with Care
Clearwater Seafoods has made a generous $250,000 donation to the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore’s Brighter Days capital campaign.
The gift will support the redevelopment of South Shore Regional Hospital, specifically the 35-year-old hospital’s new and expanded Emergency Department.
Adian Matchett, Human Resources Manager for Clearwater’s Fleet Operations, says the company understands its corporate responsibility to participate and support the communities its crew members are part of.
“We have our fleet office based out of Lunenburg plus a large number of our crew members and employees in this area. Wherever they are on the South Shore, they may need services at South Shore Regional Hospital. Our Clearwater Cares program is our initiative to ensure that we’re able to reach out and engage with charity and volunteer groups within the community to support the local area to the best of our ability.”
Clearwater Seafood’s Nova Scotia operation employs approximately 250 people, with some needing specific medical services. “We need to support health care on the South Shore. Our offshore fishermen all need a full medical every two years, so they need the support of our local medical system to do this. They also need our hospitals to receive medical treatments for any issues that they may have. Health care is just incredibly important to all of us.
Health Services Foundation Executive Director Arleen Stevens says it amazing to see the South Shore business community rally around the hospital redevelopment. “Our Brighter Days volunteers and Clearwater have been discussing this donation for a long time. We are so grateful for this very generous donation, of which Clearwater’s employees (and their loved ones) will benefit from for years to come.”
The Brighter Days Capital Campaign is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help ensure the residents of Nova Scotia’s South Shore have access to the best available health care facilities. The 48,705 sq. ft. expansion and redevelopment of the hospital is expected to be completed in 2025.
