Bariatric Equipment Shines at 2018 Charm Diamond Centres' Women's Giving Circle

WGC 2018 WinnersWhile the voting was close, it was a skit demonstrating the need for additional bariatric equipment on the medical and medical/surgery units at South Shore Regional Hospital which won the support, and the $10,000 donation, from the attendees of the 2018 Charm Diamond Centres' Women's Giving Circle.

A bariatric patient is someone who weighs over 300lbs or is 100-200lbs overweight.

Gina Phinney, Health Services Manager for the Medicine and Medical/Surgery Unit at South Shore Regional Hospital, is very excited for this donation. "This will help get our bariatric patients up and out of bed, mobilizing them in the hallway. It's important to do this for a number of reasons: it helps circulation, decreases your risk of pneumonia, bed sores and blood clots."

The funding will go to purchase a new bariatric chair and pressure cushions which are needed at South Shore Regional, where staff say it's not unusual to have three or four bariatric patients at one time who need this equipment.
